We’re Back!

After almost six months, Andover Elementary School students successfully returned to school on Tuesday September 8th to begin the 2020-21 school year. With new arrival and dismissal procedures in place, parents and guardians were greeted at the various drop zones and students entered the building wearing masks and proceeding directly to their classrooms.

During the first four days, we have been making minor adjustments to our procedures and everything has been running smoothly. A tremendous amount of credit goes to our students and our staff as they have handled this transition back into school in such an impressive manner. I would also like to thank our AES Reopening Committee for their hours of hard work and preparation in getting ready for a safe reopening.

Thank you Michela!

Great News! All students are now eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every day from now until December 31, 2020. The USDA approved the funding for children aged 18 and under. Any student who orders school lunch or breakfast on any day before December 31 will receive their meal for free. You will find lunch menus and a copy of the letter from food services attached to the Sunday Scoop.

This year, social and emotional well-being will be a focus area for all of us at AES. Our staff has been trained using the RULER Approach from Yale’s Center for Emotional Intelligence and we will be introducing this approach to our students and families over the course of the year.

RULER is a systemic approach to SEL (Social Emotional Learning) developed at the Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER aims to infuse the principles of emotional intelligence into the immune system of preK to 12 schools, informing how leaders lead, teachers teach, students learn, and families support students. RULER is an acronym for the 5 skills of emotional intelligence.

RULER

The development of these five RULER skills relies on four core tools: the Charter, Mood Meter, Meta-Moment, and Blueprint. These skills and tools are introduced to all stakeholders in the school community—school leaders, teachers, staff, students, and families.

Our school psychologist, Susan Parvenski, and social worker, Cheri Rivard-Lentz, worked with members of our Reopening Committee to develop a social emotional survey for families to assess the well-being of students and families as we begin this new school year. If you have not already completed the survey, here is the link: https://forms.gle/dvgGspJCuRkon1Cz6
