yoga in class

AES students and staff participated in virtual chair yoga on Monday thanks to a grant from the PTA as part of our “Motivational Monday” series. Our students learned some of the basic yoga positions and practiced breathing techniques from instructor, Tina Catanazaro. Pictured above are 5th grade students in Mrs. Hopkins’ class with Mrs. Frazier. We are already looking forward to our next session!

On Thursday morning, Andover Fire Chief Ron Mike and his son, Ben, met with each class outside to discuss fire safety as part of National Fire Safety Week. This year’s focus is on safety in the kitchen. All of our students received special gifts from the fire department after the presentation. Thank you to all of our volunteers at Andover’s Fire Department!

Fifth grade students have been learning about government and are participating in Connecticut’s Kid Governor Campaign. This week, they listened to State Senator Steve Cassano discuss his responsibilities at the state level and entertained questions from the students. The students also made speeches to their classmates describing their campaign platform in an effort to win the right to represent Andover Elementary in the Kid Governor Campaign. Congratulations to Sam, Ava, Jack, CJ and Skyler for advancing to the next round!

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 4 and 5 starting at 1:30 PM. These conferences will be conducted via Zoom and teachers will be sending you an invitation to sign up for a 20 minute time slot. If you need an earlier or later time slot than is available, please let your classroom teacher know and I am sure they will work with you to arrive at a mutually agreeable time for your conference.
School Pictures will be taking place on Thursday October 22. We will be sending home the picture order form this week. In the meantime, you will find online ordering directions attached to the Sunday Scoop. In an effort to minimize contact with ordering envelopes, our picture company is asking families to order online. If you have any difficulty ordering online, we will accept the order envelopes. Picture scholarships are available. Please contact Mr. Briody if you would like to request a school picture scholarship.
Each morning, the AES Morning Announcements will be available via Zoom at 8:45 each morning. Distance Learners can tune in each morning. Please email or call the school for this information.

Great News!  All students are now eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every day from now until December 31, 2020.  The USDA approved the funding for children aged 18 and under.  Any student who orders school lunch or breakfast on any day before December 31 will receive their meal for free.
