Unity Day!

AES celebrated Unity Day on Wednesday October 21 as part of the national movement to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion.  Unity Day was created as part of National Bullying Prevention Month, and our students participated in various activities in their classrooms this year that will be shared across the school through a short video.  Students wore orange to demonstrate their solidarity in preventing bullying.  Special thanks to our fifth and sixth-grade students and teachers who helped to plan this meaningful event!  Be sure to check out the pictures at the end of the Sunday Scoop.

In the pictures below, Brody is working on the shared google slides presentation “spread some sunshine” where each student wrote kind words on the slides of others. Bethany and Morgan are working on their “Instagram” posts to spread positive thoughts for unity.

Mindfulness Monday is back!  Chair Yoga returns for all students on Monday October 26th in two separate sessions, one for the upper and one for the lower elementary students.  It’s a great way to focus and stretch the mind and body for the upcoming week.  Thank you to the PTA, Mrs. Frazier and our instructor, Tina Catanazaro.

AES will be closed Tuesday November 3rd for Election Day.  This change to our school calendar was approved unanimously by the Andover Board of Education at their October meeting.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 4 and 5 starting at 1:30 PM. These conferences will be conducted via Zoom and teachers will be sending you an invitation to sign up for a 20 minute time slot. If you need an earlier or later time slot than is available, please let your classroom teacher know and I am sure they will work with you to arrive at a mutually agreeable time for your conference.

Each morning, the AES Morning Announcements will be available via Zoom at 8:45 each morning. Distance Learners can tune in each morning using the link below:

October may seem early to think about the holidays, but with the uncertainty and difficulty of this pandemic, we want to reach out to AES families early.  Holidays can be financially stressful for families, possibly even more so in this unique year. If you and your family need extra support for the holidays in food and gift assistance, please reach out to  Cheri Rivard-Lentz at AES or email at or Andover's Social Services Department by contacting Roberta Dougherty at 860-742-7305 x5 or by email at

If you would prefer not to contact either of these resources, you can also request assistance by completing one or both of these documents from Hebron Interfaith Human Services:

All students are now eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every day from now until December 31, 2020.  The USDA approved the funding for children aged 18 and under.  Any student who orders school lunch or breakfast on any day before December 31 will receive their meal for free.
