kids on swings in snow

October in Andover!

Another crazy weather pattern visited Andover and Eastern Connecticut on Friday leaving upwards of four inches of snow on the grassy areas and cars in the parking lot. Many of our students had the opportunity to catch snowflakes on their tongues and play outside enjoying the first snowfall of the season. I wonder what the rest of winter has in store for us...

Thank you to everyone who participated on Thursday from 6-7:30 PM in our first Andover open dialogue regarding race and what that means to us. The conversation was facilitated by two SERC experts, Nitza and Nicole. They led us through a few exercises to help drive our conversation about the differences between equity and equality and helped us to personally identify where we may currently be on the Courageous Conversations compass. Our powerful panel included parents, staff, administration, a town employee, and BOE members. It was quite moving to hear personal lived accounts of uncomfortable feelings associated with race, but the sharing began to open closed doors and encourage further much-needed dialogue. The openness and honesty left a mark on all who joined, and the immediate feedback was overwhelmingly in the direction of continuing this conversation. Thank you everyone who participated!! We will start planning for a second discussion soon.

Morgan and Brody put the final touches on their ornaments they are creating in Spanish class. Señora Hutton's recent lessons in 6th grade have had the students learning about animals and describing their attributes.

Pre-K students in Mrs. Morrell’s class have been learning all about robots during Tech Time with Mrs. Frazier. After learning about each kind of robot and how to operate them, the students started a weekly rotation that will allow them to try out each type of robot. Students were able to put their skills to work and get hands on practice with either Dash, Code-a-Pillars or coding mice.
