children outsideTraveling Democracy!

The Connecticut Democracy Center rolled onto the AES campus on Monday as part of their traveling road show promoting the 5th Grade Kid Governor Campaign. Students from across the state have been casting their ballots for the next Kid Governor. Andover’s fifth graders have been actively participating in the election process since the beginning of the year and were rewarded with a pep rally. Our students showcased their understanding of state government by answering every question correctly! Special thanks to Mrs. Hopkins and Mrs. Adanti for their efforts in bringing this authentic learning experience to life! Connecticut’s next Kid Governor will be announced this week.

AES will be moving to remote teaching and learning after the Thanksgiving Holiday from November 30 through December 8, 2020. Our teachers are busy planning structured lessons in each of the subject areas for the seven school days. Attendance will be taken and completion of assignments will be expected, monitored and assessed. Please contact me with any questions.

What's Happening in Music?

So far this year, we have tried to have outdoor music classes as much as we can with social distancing and masks.

Each Pre K class starts with our “Hello Song” and a “Name Song.” The goal for the PreK students is to sing their name by themselves. The students in PreK -2 have learned an additional song called the “Autumn Song” and Hungarian Dance No. 5 by J. Brahms with “chef” moves.

3rd grade students are learning music letters in order including ascending and descending directions. We continue to learn and practice counting rhythms of quarter notes (Ta), two eighth notes (Titi), and half notes(Ta-ah).

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth grade have spent their music classes playing virtual instruments called Xylo.

Also, we are learning about a French composer G. Bizet who wrote the opera “Carmen.”

It may seem early to think about the holidays, but with the uncertainty and difficulty of this pandemic, we want to reach out to AES families early.  Holidays can be financially stressful for families, possibly even more so in this unique year. If you and your family need extra support for the holidays in food and gift assistance, please reach out to  Cheri Rivard-Lentz at AES or email at or Andover's Social Services Department by contacting Roberta Dougherty at 860-742-7305 x5 or by email at

If you would prefer not to contact either of these resources, you can also request assistance by completing one or both of these documents from Hebron Interfaith Human Services:
