Sunday Scoop 1/10/2021

Superintendent Bruneau has written a New Year Letter to all families.

Andover Elementary School will be hosting another Courageous Conversation to help

create a shared understanding of key concepts about racial identity with a focus on bias. We

will address the most effective ways to discuss race and bias with children within the home

and the school community. Please plan to join us on January 28th at 6:00 PM via Zoom. There is an informational flyer attached to the Sunday Scoop.

Teachers and families were given the opportunity to offer feedback on our seven days of distance learning that followed the Thanksgiving break. Overwhelmingly, the feedback was quite positive and supportive of our approach to teaching and learning in comparison to last spring. The surveys included helpful comments and suggestions for ways that we can continue to improve the experience if we need to return to this instructional approach. Survey results were shared with families and staff over the holiday break.

The AES PTA has invited Donna Washington, a nationally recognized storyteller, to AES (virtually) as part of their annual efforts to offer enrichment to our students. Donna Washington will present three storytelling sessions via Zoom to our students on January 22. Donna has been here before, and our students and staff truly enjoy her engaging style. In addition, we will be offering in-school field trips and continuing our Mindfulness Monday series during the second half of the year.

Students in grades K-6 will be participating in STAR reading and math benchmark assessments during January. These results will be analyzed and compared to September’s results in order to plan instruction for the second half of the school year.

Each morning, the AES Morning Announcements will be available via Zoom at 8:45 AM.

All students are now eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every day from now until June 30, 2021. The USDA approved the funding for children aged 18 and under. Families may opt for a once a week pick up on Wednesdays from 11:30 – 12:30 at the front of the Capt. Nathan Hale School in Coventry. These meals are ordered every two weeks and come frozen, ready to heat at home. These meals can be ordered by clicking HERE.
