First graders from Mrs. Beloin and Mrs. DelMastro’s class participated in a March Madness Book Battle. Sixteen books competed against each other in a battle of favorites. Students listened to and discussed a variety of books - both fiction and nonfiction. Then students would vote using the bracket-style tournament to determine which books they liked best, and which book would move onto the next round.

The final two book battles were Sloth Went by Adam Lehrhaupt and Rescue and Jessica by Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes. First grade decided that Rescue and Jessica was the March Madness Picture Book Winner! We hope you enjoy listening to this story read by Mr. Briody.

Janet Lawler was our guest author in our Meet the Author Series for grades K-3 on March 31. She shared her life as an author, the publication of 30 stories to date and gave us a sneak peak at her news one about Walruses. We listened to Snowzilla, read through the voice of the writer and talked about the challenges of coming up with an idea for a book. Janet Lawler shared how editing occurs and some samples of before and after products and illustrations.

Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th & 6th grade students,

AHM Youth & Family Services is offering a human growth and development program for interested 5thand 6th grade students and their parents/guardians. This program grew out of the recognition that parents often want support in starting conversations with their children in the areas related to physical and emotional development through adolescence. In past years, this program has been held in the evenings at school, but due to COVID, the parent-child portion of the program will occur using Zoom. This program’s format will be videos, discussion, and activities.

The parent-child session will take place from 6:30-8:30 PM on Monday May 10, 2021. The follow-up session for students will occur during the school day. The session for the girls will be on Tuesday, May 11 from 1:15 until dismissal. The session for the boys will meet on Monday, May 17 from 1:15 until dismissal. We will meet in the café, gym, or outside, depending on scheduling and the weather. Only children who attend the parent-child evening session will be allowed to participate in the student meetings.

If you would like to attend this program with your child(ren), please email to inform me that you will attend the evening presentation on May 10 and to give permission for your child to participate in the student session during the school day on May 11 or 17. I will respond to you with the link for the presentation. I will also send some materials home on May 10 that will be used during the evening presentation.

The Annual PTA AES Talent show is coming soon!

This year’s show will be shared as a link to watch at your convenience.

We are looking for a variety of acts which may include: singing, dancing, magic, playing an instrument, ventriloquists, skits, comedy, poetry, recitation, juggling, hula-hooping or any other special talent your child may have! Get your siblings, parents, grandparents or whomever is around involved.

For more details, and or to sign up, fill out the Andover Talent Show Form.

Program Cover Contest:

Each year the PTA holds a program cover contest for the talent show. If you are a 5th or 6th grader and would like to submit your artwork for the contest, please take a photo of the artwork and email to Paula King at: by April 9th. Be sure to include in your artwork Fireball, our school mascot.

Student Art Galleries and Spring Gift Giving Ideas

In grades K-6 photos will be taken of different art projects throughout the year and uploaded to your child’s art gallery on the website Artsonia. You will get a notification every time work is published. Parents and family members can view the art online, leave comments, and order keepsakes featuring the art such as: masks, t-shirts, magnets and mugs through Artsonia’s gift shop. The school will receive a portion of the proceeds from any keepsakes ordered. These could make some great personalized gifts for upcoming holidays. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduations will be here soon!

Permission slips for you to access your child’s Artsonia gallery using a screen name and a parent code have been sent home. You can set your gallery for private or public viewing. We hope that you will join and enjoy viewing your child’s art. Distance learners can also submit work by emailing photos to Mrs. Waine.

Great News!!! The Online Ordering portal is now open for preorders of the 2020-2021 School Yearbook. It couldn’t be easier to order this year through the Coffee Pond website. Please see below and kindly place all orders before May 1st, 2021.

From AES Food Services:

As you know, breakfast and lunch is being provided at no cost to all AES students this year through a federal grant. We do not expect this grant to continue into next year, and we are encouraging all families who think they might qualify for free or reduced lunch to complete and submit the required paperwork in order to be registered for next year. You can find the necessary forms and information at Andover Public Food Services.

Each morning, the AES Morning Announcements will be available via Zoom at 8:45 AM. Distance Learners can tune in each morning.
