AES staff and students celebrated the last school day before spring break with a spirit day on Friday. It was Favorite Decades Day! We hope that you and your families have an enjoyable week, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday April 26th for 39 more days of school. Yes, you are reading that correctly...

CSDE & CDPH Finish Strong Initiative

In sixth grade, students are able to earn Community Points as a class by working well together, everyone completing homework, getting compliments from other teachers and staff, and by just being generally awesome! After earning 50 points, they are able to choose a class reward. This time around, they chose to have a STEAM day (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). On Friday, April 16, the students enjoyed a day full of STEAM activities! They participated in stations ranging from watercolors and pastels to driving robots and everything in between! It was a fun day of learning, cooperating and being creative. Check out some of the pictures from the day!

Book Challenge

Andover’s Read Across America Challenge is underway! Andover students have been challenged to read 20 books each in a variety of genres between March and June and encourage their classmates to earn whole class rewards and help AES meet the school reading goal of 3,000 books before June 1st. Each week, students will be featured in the Sunday Scoop and recognized on our website as part of the challenge. Congratulations to Cole in Mrs. Barone’s Pre-K classroom!

Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th & 6th grade students,

AHM Youth & Family Services is offering a human growth and development program for interested 5thand 6th grade students and their parents/guardians. This program grew out of the recognition that parents often want support in starting conversations with their children in the areas related to physical and emotional development through adolescence. In past years, this program has been held in the evenings at school, but due to COVID, the parent-child portion of the program will occur using Zoom. This program’s format will be videos, discussion, and activities.

The parent-child session will take place from 6:30-8:30 PM on Monday May 10, 2021. The follow-up session for students will occur during the school day. The session for the girls will be on Tuesday, May 11 from 1:15 until dismissal. The session for the boys will meet on Monday, May 17 from 1:15 until dismissal. We will meet in the café, gym, or outside, depending on scheduling and the weather. Only children who attend the parent-child evening session will be allowed to participate in the student meetings.

If you would like to attend this program with your child(ren), please email cherir@ahmyouth.org to inform me that you will attend the evening presentation on May 10 and to give permission for your child to participate in the student session during the school day on May 11 or 17. I will respond to you with the link for the presentation. I will also send some materials home on May 10 that will be used during the evening presentation.

Student Art Galleries and Spring Gift Giving Ideas

In grades K-6 photos will be taken of different art projects throughout the year and uploaded to your child’s art gallery on the website Artsonia. You will get a notification every time work is published. Parents and family members can view the art online, leave comments, and order keepsakes featuring the art such as: masks, t-shirts, magnets and mugs through Artsonia’s gift shop. The school will receive a portion of the proceeds from any keepsakes ordered. These could make some great personalized gifts for upcoming holidays. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduations will be here soon!

Permission slips for you to access your child’s Artsonia gallery using a screen name and a parent code have been sent home. You can set your gallery for private or public viewing. We hope that you will join and enjoy viewing your child’s art. Distance learners can also submit work by emailing photos to Mrs. Waine.

If you still need your login information please contact Jessica Waine at wainej@andoverelementaryct.org.

From AES Food Services:

As you know, breakfast and lunch is being provided at no cost to all AES students this year through a federal grant. We do not expect this grant to continue into next year, and we are encouraging all families who think they might qualify for free or reduced lunch to complete and submit the required paperwork in order to be registered for next year. You can find the necessary forms and information can be found at Andover Public Elementary Food Services.

Each morning, the AES Morning Announcements will be available via Zoom at 8:45 AM. Distance Learners can tune in each morning.
