We’re Back!

AES students returned to school on Monday for the final eight weeks of school before summer vacation. By the time you receive this, it will be 7 weeks (34 school days)... We are busy planning Field Day for June 11, Dare Graduation for 6th grade on May 19 and several in-school field trips and activities to end the year on a positive note. You may have already heard about the PTA Talent Show that premiered on Thursday evening, but just in case, here is the link for your viewing pleasure:

Special thanks to Paula King for planning and putting the entire show together! Great job!

Monday begins Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week at AES. Flyers were sent home by the PTA describing the various ways that we plan to let our staff know how much we appreciate them.

Each day of the week is a special celebration. Students and families are encouraged to make cards, write notes and bring flowers. There is nothing more meaningful than a handwritten card or note from a student or family. Please be sure to take a few minutes to let our teachers, paraprofessionals, special area teachers, cafeteria workers, office staff, school nurse and custodians know how much you appreciate them. They have all done an amazing job this year!

You’ve Been Caught!

Andover’s Read Across America Challenge is underway! Andover students have been challenged to read 20 books each in a variety of genres between now and June 1 and encourage their classmates to earn whole class rewards and help AES meet the school reading goal of 3,000 books before June 1st. Each week, students will be featured in the Sunday Scoop and recognized on our website as part of the challenge. Congratulations to Noah (above) in Mrs. Gilbert’s Kindergarten Class and Otto, Margaux, Sam, Eleanor, Lily, Andrew and John!

Mrs. Morrell’s PK class had the whole world in their hands on Friday as they learned about water on planet Earth.

Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th & 6th grade students,

AHM Youth & Family Services is offering a human growth and development program for interested 5thand 6th grade students and their parents/guardians. This program grew out of the recognition that parents often want support in starting conversations with their children in the areas related to physical and emotional development through adolescence. In past years, this program has been held in the evenings at school, but due to COVID, the parent-child portion of the program will occur using Zoom. This program’s format will be videos, discussion, and activities.

The parent-child session will take place from 6:30-8:30 PM on Monday May 10, 2021. The follow-up session for students will occur during the school day. The session for the girls will be on Tuesday, May 11 from 1:15 until dismissal. The session for the boys will meet on Monday, May 17 from 1:15 until dismissal. We will meet in the café, gym, or outside, depending on scheduling and the weather. Only children who attend the parent-child evening session will be allowed to participate in the student meetings.

If you would like to attend this program with your child(ren), please email to inform me that you will attend the evening presentation on May 10 and to give permission for your child to participate in the student session during the school day on May 11 or 17. I will respond to you with the link for the presentation. I will also send some materials home on May 10 that will be used during the evening presentation.

AHM launched a new program called Health Matters. Health Matters is a mind and body wellness program developed by AHM’s Leadership, Mental Health and Prevention Teams; funded by a Grant from the Cigna Foundation.

Activities include Yoga Flow for All, Chair Yoga, Introduction to Tai Chi (Meditative Movement), Storytime Yoga, Zentangle Drawing, and Zumba Fitness®. Three workshops are planned: Love Your Face Therapy (LYFT) Workshop and two Mindfulness & Meditation Workshops; one for yourself and one for the entire family to participate in together.
