May in the Shade!

The Andover PTA updated and upgraded our upper playground/classroom area with 4 colorful picnic tables and a big beautiful umbrella to provide shade and protection from the rain. It’s a wonderful improvement to our school grounds and we truly appreciate everyone’s efforts in making it a reality. Thank you PTA!

Look “WHOOOO” Came to AES!

Women carrying owlAssembly

Second graders have been beginning to learn all about owls! This Friday, Horizon Wings visited AES to educate students all about different owls that can be found in our own backyards. Students got to see the Eastern Screech Owl, Barred Owl, Northern Saw-Whet Owl and the Great Horned Owl. The team at Horizon did a wonderful job teaching the students all about these majestic owls.

Can you find the 3D shapes?

Students designing castlesStudents designing castlesStudents designing castlesStudents designing castles

Students from Mrs. Adanti’s class have been hard at work in their geometry unit! To demonstrate their understanding of 3D and 2D shapes, students worked together to design castles. Students viewed real castles for their inspiration. After they completed their designs, they were tasked with viewing the design from different angles to draw the faces that made up the various 3D shapes. Students also had to count how many of the different shapes they used. Students were amazed at how many cylinders, rectangular prisms, and cubes they had needed. Students have been having a lot of fun learning about shapes.

S.T.E.A.M Stations

All 2nd & 3rd graders recently participated in S.T.E.A.M. Stations. Spending two Monday afternoons working in small mixed grade level groups, the students worked through each spring themed station cooperatively.

  • Students tested their egg boats designed to float and sail.
  • The Dash robots were used for a challenge that tested their ability to operate the robots to collect a certain color of plastic egg.
  • Animals invaded the library as students selected an animal in Google and then viewed it in their space as a 3d object. Emelina is enjoying a visit with a unicorn.
  • Students worked collaboratively to recreate a pixelated picture.
  • Students got artistic as they decorated and assembled a CD spinner.
