All Aboard!

AES students and staff participated in Project ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously) on Thursday morning by walking around the lower playground for 15-20 minutes. It was an absolutely perfect day for a walk and everyone enjoyed the weather, music and exercise. Thank you to Mr. Moynihan for organizing this fun event!

What’s Happening in Music?

Students in PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade have continued learning new songs through our First Steps in Music program. Most recently, we have returned to solos and added instruments to some of our songs and chants.

Students in Grade 2 debuted new rhythm centers last month that allowed them to use their reading, composing, and performing skills. We had a lot of fun, especially with Rhythm Jenga!

In the past couple weeks, students in Grade 3 have been putting together all of the skills and knowledge that we have learned this year and begun learning how to play the recorder! We are so excited to begin our Recorder Karate curriculum and have loved the opportunity to practice in class and at home!

Grades 4, 5, and 6 just wrapped up a note names and values unit and are now learning about dynamics, as well as a new song, “Tongo”. This song is going to put a lot of musical skills to the test at the same time and we are excited to continue working on it over the next couple weeks.

The AES Band had its first official full band rehearsal last week! This was a new experience for most of our students but we had a lot of fun finally getting to play together. This week we had our second rehearsal and had a lot of fun learning how our individual parts fit together in our full ensemble.
